Logical reasoning practice that explains itself

Logic Lab is about what follows from what. It begins with the difference between must, might and can’t, then moves through if-then rules, chains of facts, deduction puzzles, the words logic turns on, arguments, causes and chance. When you get one wrong, it shows you exactly which step went astray.

What you will practise

  • Must, might, can’t

Telling what has to be true from what only could be.

  • If-then rules

Using a rule correctly, and not running it backwards.

  • Deduction

Chaining facts and solving grid and ordering puzzles one certain step at a time.

  • Arguments

Spotting the hidden assumption, and the reason that does not actually support the claim.

  • Causes and chance

Separating cause from coincidence, and weighing how likely something really is.

Try one

From Unit 1, exactly as it appears in the app. In a lesson you would tap your answer and hear why it works, or why not.

Hana is faster than Ben. Vik is faster than Ben too. Is Hana faster than Vik?

  1. You can’t tell from this
  2. Yes: Hana was named first
  3. No: both are faster than Ben, so equal
Show the answer

You can’t tell from this

Both orders fit, so the facts don’t settle it: you can’t tell. A fact about two people says nothing about a third, and can be said from either side.

How a lesson works

  1. Step 1

    See the idea

A lesson opens by showing you one idea, worked through step by step.

  2. Step 2

    Use it yourself

Then it is your turn. A wrong answer tells you why, and hints come one at a time.

  3. Step 3

    Keep it

Ideas come back in later lessons and in your daily workout, so you keep using them.

Questions about Reasoning

What is logical reasoning?
Working out what must follow from what you know, and what does not. It is the skill behind solving puzzles, checking an argument, and not jumping to a conclusion.
Will it help with reasoning tests?
The lessons practise the same kinds of thinking that verbal and logical reasoning questions use, such as rules, orders and what must be true. We do not promise a score: it is practice, not a test-prep course.
What happens when I get one wrong?
You are told why that answer does not work and can try again. Hints come one at a time, and the full answer is shown only if you ask for it.
Do I need an account to start?
No. You can start as a guest, and your progress is kept in your browser on that device.
