Make better decisions, one choice at a time
Choice Island is about choosing well when you cannot be certain. It starts with what you actually want, then works through must-haves and nice-to-haves, trade-offs, the costs you do not see, now versus later, chance and risk, whether to find out more first, choices that change, and decisions shared with other people.
What you will practise
Goals and must-haves
Knowing what you want, and which parts are not up for trade.
Trade-offs
Seeing what each option gains and what it gives up.
Hidden costs
Counting what you give up by choosing, not only what you pay.
Risk and timing
Weighing chance, and something now against something more later.
Judging decisions
Telling a good decision from a lucky outcome.
Try one
From Unit 4, exactly as it appears in the app. In a lesson you would tap your answer and hear why it works, or why not.
Pip’s plans for Saturday afternoon: swimming 3, the cinema 8, the park 9, baking 4. Pip picks baking. What does that cost?
- Nothing: Pip gives nothing up
- Giving up swimming (3)
- Giving up all the other plans together (20)
- Giving up the park (9)
Show the answer
Giving up the park (9)
A choice costs the best thing it gives up. Picking baking gives up the park, worth 9: only one other plan could have happened instead.

How a lesson works
- Step 1
See the idea
A lesson opens by showing you one idea, worked through step by step.
- Step 2
Use it yourself
Then it is your turn. A wrong answer tells you why, and hints come one at a time.
- Step 3
Keep it
Ideas come back in later lessons and in your daily workout, so you keep using them.
Questions about Decision Making
- What is decision making as a skill?
- Choosing on purpose: being clear about what you want, comparing options fairly, seeing the costs and risks, and judging the choice by how it was made rather than only by how it turned out.
- Are there right answers?
- Yes, within each exercise. The situations are set up so that one choice follows from the goals and facts you are given, and the explanation says why.
- How does it adapt to me?
- The start you pick sets your first level. After that, the exercises follow how you answer.
- Do I need an account to start?
- No. You can start as a guest, and your progress is kept in your browser on that device.
